Frequently Asked Polar Air Highwall Questions
Do PHW highwalls need maintenance?
Yes, highwall fan coil units require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Routine maintenance tasks include cleaning or replacing air filters, checking and cleaning the coils, inspecting electrical connections, and ensuring proper airflow.
Regular maintenance helps prevent potential issues, improves energy efficiency, and ensures the unit operates effectively. It’s recommended to schedule professional maintenance at least once a year to keep your highwall fan coil unit in top condition and to address any minor problems before they become major issues.
What is a highwall fan coil?
A highwall fan coil is a type of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) unit designed to be mounted high on a wall. These units are commonly used in residential and business buildings to provide efficient heating and cooling.
Highwall fan coils consist of a fan and a coil, which work together to circulate air and regulate temperature. The fan draws in air from the room, passes it over the coil (which can be heated or cooled), and then distributes the conditioned air back into the space. This setup allows for effective temperature control and improved air circulation, making highwall fan coils a popular choice for maintaining indoor comfort.
How easy is it to install the PHW highwall?
The PHW is offered as a complete package, including an internal drain pan, NBR insulation, and MERV4 filter. Plus, there are compatible accessories also available.
Installing a highwall fan coil unit can be relatively straightforward for a professional HVAC technician. The process typically involves mounting the unit securely on a high wall, connecting it to the building’s electrical system, and integrating it with the existing HVAC infrastructure.
Proper installation ensures optimal performance and efficiency.
What length are the PHW connection hoses?
To support flexible and hassle-free installation, the PHW highwall unit now comes with longer connection hoses as standard. These hoses easily reach across to the opposite side, accommodating various piping layouts.
Installation Flexibility Options:
- Left-Side Piping (facing supply air): You can bypass the hoses and connect directly to the coil and valve.
- Center Connections: The longer hoses are flexible enough to bend toward the center. Alternatively, pre-sized shorter hoses are available and reach the middle of the unit.
- Right-Side Piping (control box side): The default longer hoses provide the necessary reach without modification.
This design ensures more efficient serviceability while supporting a wider range of layout scenarios.
What side are the PHW highwall water connections and control box on?
In the new PHW models, the water connections have been repositioned to the opposite side of the control box, specifically, on the left side when facing the direction of airflow (supply air), while controls remain on the right. This redesign improves access for valve maintenance and simplifies replacement procedures.
