Frequently Asked Polar Cassette Questions

How easy is it to install the PCGH-3R Cassette?
The PCGH-3R is offered as a complete package, including an internal/external drain pan, 5 mm (0.2”) NBR insulation, integrated Sauermann condensate pump, manual air vent + water purge valve and G2 (MERV 4) filter. Plus, there are compatible accessories also available. Installing a cassette fan coil requires a suitable ceiling space with enough depth to house the unit. The process includes mounting the cassette securely, connecting it to the chilled/hot water supply and return lines, and ensuring proper condensate drainage with the integrated pump. Electrical wiring is connected to the control system, and the unit’s louvers and panel are fitted. Once installed, the system is pressure-tested, the airflow is balanced, and controls are configured. Proper installation ensures efficient operation, easy access for servicing, and long-term reliability.
Do PCGH-3R Cassettes need maintenance?
Yes, cassette fan coil units require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Routine maintenance tasks include cleaning or replacing the air filters, checking the condensate pump and drain for blockages, and inspecting the coil and fan for dust or debris buildup. Regular maintenance helps prevent potential issues, improves energy efficiency, and ensures the unit operates effectively. It’s recommended to schedule professional maintenance at least once a year to keep your cassette fan coil unit in top condition and to address any minor problems before they become major issues.
What is a cassette fan coil?
A cassette fan coil is an HVAC unit mounted flush with the ceiling, leaving only the panel visible for a neat, space-saving design. It combines a fan and a water coil to circulate air, heating or cooling it before distributing it back into the room through one, two, three, or four outlets. This design provides efficient temperature control, even air circulation, and helps improve indoor air quality by filtering dust, odors, and excess moisture. Cassette fan coils are widely used in healthcare, commercial, education, and office buildings for reliable comfort.
Who are Polar Air?
Polar Air are a global leader in providing high-performance hydronic fan coil solutions with decades of HVAC expertise. Headquartered in Murcia, Spain and with a presence in North America, Polar Air are poised to support clients globally with their large range (over 1,800 configurations) of fan coil products that are sold in 28 countries worldwide.
What is an EC motor?
EC, or Electronically Commutated motors are a type of very efficient, brush-less DC motors seeing increasing use in HVAC systems. The brush-less design over traditional carbon brushes allows for efficient operation on AC power while providing the benefits of DC motors. Such energy efficiency gains are important in the context of green energy goals and net-zero targets.
What is the difference between 2-pipe and 4-pipe hydronic fan coils
2-pipe systems feature one coil and one water circuit, a single heat exchanger (coil) is used for either heating or cooling with the system switching seasonally. 4-pipe systems feature two coils and two separate water circuits, this allows the unit to have one dedicated cooling coil and one dedicated heating coil to allow simultaneous heating and cooling.
